Great Smoky Mountains National Park

1420 Fighting Creek Gap Road, Gatlinburg, Tennessee 37738 Price Range: Free Save

Chartered on June 15th of 1934, and dedicated by FDR in 1940, the Great Smoky Mountains National Park is visited by over 11 million visitors every year, making it the United State’s most visited national park.

With around 850 miles of trails, including 70 miles of the Appalachian Trail, hiking is one of the most popular activities in the park. Many of the trails follow rivers and streams, almost a quarter of which are large enough to support trout populations to be fished; almost all of them have waterfalls of various heights.

If you are looking for a bit less walking with your nature, the park also has several nice auto touring routes that pass by panoramic views, historic buildings, and through mature hardwood forests.
